Fast food and slow food / Good service and Bad service etc..

by AMK
(Norway)

WHAT BUGS ME WHEN VISITING PLACES LIKE BURGER AND OTHER PLACES TO EAT:

Burger King tricks you by advertising a large and small chicken burger. but both burgers are the same size. One just has more french fries? Con-men.

Very often both have very young staff. I think part of the reason is that young part timers get paid less?

Often, their toilets are dirty (not cleaned often enough). One reason might be that some of their branches use the kitchen staff to alternate by cleaning toilets and tidying tables when they are not too busy!

But what about that time when they are busy? We the customer pay the price with filthy greasy floors, full trash cans and dirty toilets.

One thing I like to check when entering a fast food place or a restaurant for the first time is the toilet.

The toilet is the place we are allowed to see, So if that's filthy, then do you ever wonder what it's like in the kitchen?

How many people do you know that pick their nose or scratch themselves in unmentionable places? How many young people in fast food joints want to work there forever?

I have more confidence in restaurants than fast food joints. (not inc oriental restaurants or those ones that have staff that do not speak English)

SO, "WHAT BUGS YOU?"

Check the Bathroom!
by: Lora (admin)

Hi AMK,

I will agree with you that if the restroom is filthy that you should question the kitchen.
I don't so much as blame the employees though. I think it's a reflection on the manager/owner.

Did you ever watch Kitchen Nightmares with Chef Gordan Ramsay? That would scare you out of eating ANYWHERE - fast food joints, chains or sole proprieties!

Now, if the staff (or even the owner speaks very little to no English, this could be a good thing!

Suppose you were in an Italian restaurant. Wouldn't you assume that you are going to get the most authentic Italian food you ever had in your life if the Chef, owner and staff spoke broken English at best?

Same goes for a Japanese or a Mexican restaurant. If the staff or owner is really Japanese or really Mexican and speak not a lick of English, I am looking forward to a great meal!

And... now I am getting VERY hungry! Burritos! Sushi! But alas, my bathroom is in need of a good scrubbing, so don't come over! LOL

Kitchen nightmares
by: Anonymous

Yes, I have seen them all as well as everything else Gordan Ramsey has produced! Gives me an idea for another subject. Watch out for it! .-)

Even I was surprised to see how bad some kitchens could be even though the restaurant looked good on the outside.

But yet this does not increase my confidence in non English speaking staff and obviously not their employers either. I would rather have a McDonald's plastic burger off a conveyor belt. :-)
