Men Drivers
by All Roads Lead Home
(Lost Again)

Dear Dr. Julia,
What is it with men and their fear of asking for directions? Is it some macho thing?
My husband would rather drive aimlessly for hours (pretending all the while that he knows where he's going) than to just stop and ask someone.
It drives me crazy.
Dear All Roads,Understanding men begins with realizing that they are explorers by nature.
Trekking off into the unknown is exciting to them... and it may even shave some time off of a dinner party that they're not too keen on attending to begin with.
Some Men Get Directions...
Of course, there are times when a man simply must get directions.
Take Lewis and Clark for example.
These guys would have been decades late had it not been for the help of Sacagawea, am I right?
Two Types of Drivers
Then you have men who refuse to listen to anyone, blazing new trails fearlessly!
Christopher Columbus was such a one.
Yes, he was not going where he thought he was going, but he did make a great discovery nonetheless.
What do you suppose would have been the outcome had his wife been on board that ship?

Well, I can tell you right now, we'd still be taking the long way from Spain!
Women are notorious backseat drivers.
Poor Christopher would have gotten an earful with every turn of the helm.
If you could just think of every outing with your husband as an adventure, maybe it would be less of an annoyance to you.
Set Sail and...
Embrace the explorer's spirit.
Throw MapQuest and your GPS to the wind for a change.
It might even turn out to be a romantic drive by the light of the moon if you let it.
And who knows, given some time behind the wheel, even your husband
could make a grand discovery... hopefully before you run out of gas.
