"Don't talk to me - I'm writing," is a common statement for me to make.

Other forbidden speech is telling me about the Far Side cartoons by Gary Larson. I love those cartoons, but I can't risk being exposed to them. I fear any influence or even the slightest similarity.



So, although I have bought the Far Side books for my children, they are forbidden to show or TELL me anything about them.

Also forbidden is talking to me when I'm trying to think of a comic.

The other night I announced, "Don't talk to me. I'm going to think of a Sunday Funny."

My nine year old daughter then says, "I know what you can do..."

"Shut up! --- Don't say ANYTHING!" I answer back.

"Well, you should do one with a squirrel," my daughter continues in disobedience.

That's all it took.

The seed was planted.

Immediately, I had an idea for a squirrel cartoon.

Now we will never know what Dr. Julia may have come up with - what stroke of genius I may have been struck with.

Nope. All out the window with the word... squirrel.

I'm calling this cartoon Prognosis Negative.
