What Causes Dreams to Recur

What causes dreams to recur? Does that mean it will happen?

Dear Dr. Julia,

I have had a dream similar to this one before, and half of it came true. The other night I had a similar dream and I was wondering if it was going to come true?

Please tell and help me!!!!!!! :)

Dear Dreamer,

We tend to dream about what's on our mind, whether it's something that we long for or something that we dread.

It comes as no surprise when we have a dream or two or three about our little desire that's sort of always in the back of our mind.

In my humble opinion (which is 9 times out of 10 correct) when we desire something or wish that something would happen, we take certain steps to make that happen, even if those steps are subconscious ones.

We will put ourselves in situations that get us as close as we can get to our desire. We'll talk about it, read about it, find out more about it, and flirt with it any chance we get.

With this in mind, would it be altogether an odd occurrence for our dream to come true, so to speak?

When we are having a negative recurring dream, it is most likely caused by the fact that something has tipped us off. We have a little (or big) inkling that something is not right.

This inkling or feeling of unrest, could be nothing more than our own unwarranted thoughts.

You know, sometimes we think and worry about this or that needlessly. But that won't stop us from having dreams about it, will it?

However, if your dream comes true, whether in part or in whole, it simply means that your previous fretting was correct. You did see the signs of trouble ahead, even if you couldn't quite put your finger on it.

So to answer your question of "Will it happen?"
It, of course, depends. It depends on what steps are being taken... and by whom.
